110 At Oxford
The event was held close to the 110th birthday of Daimler (14th January 1896) and so had a Daimler theme, with beautiful cars from 1935 onwards including a 1937 E20 Sport and a 1950 Empress. Centre stage was the magnificent new Daimler Super Eight (only £83k). However a good collection of Jaguars was also on show including interesting E-Types, XKs, Mark 2s, XJs and XJSs. As well as car clubs there were displays from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, Institute of Advanced Motorists, Thames Valley Police Traffic and the Association of British Drivers. Brian Pearce also came along from Jaguar to demonstrate the various types of veneering now used by the Company.
The evening was kindly hosted by Guy Salmon Jaguar Oxford who provided splendid refreshments. Around 20 people also had free visual health checks (for their cars!) Alex Matschy, the Dealer Principal at Guy Salmon, described the collection of cars as incredible and pronounced the evening a great success. Many thanks to Alex and his colleague Julie Maw for their hospitality.
