In case you don't know, Norman Dewis was in charge of developing Jaguars for over 30 years from the XK140 to the XJ

At this very well-attended meeting, Norman gave us a fascinating insight into the car industry, and his role in it, from the 1940s though to the racing highlights of the 1950s.

Norman's personal stories and accounts are also be found in his book (written in conjunction with Paul Skilleter). See his web site for more details, price and availability.

Norman was the Chief Development Test Engineer for Jaguar from 1952 to his retirement in 1986 as well as being a renowned Jaguar works team driver.

He rode with Stirling Moss in a C-type in the 1952 Mille Miglia, drove a 190 mph works D-type in the highly dramatic 1955 Le Mans, raced in the Goodwood 9 Hours, and set an amazing 173 mph production car record at Jabbeke in Belgium with an XK 120 in 1949.

He lives to tell tales of surviving high-speed crashes and rollovers in the days before seat-belts and, in particular, about an XJ13 crash at M.I.R.A.

Completing over a million test miles at 100+ mph, Norman also played a crucial role developing the revolutionary Dunlop disc brake.
