The speaker at our October evening meeting was Richard Lloyd, Team Principal of Apex Motorsport. The sound of the Apex GT3 XKR has been described as a "sound to stir the soul". It marks the return of a Jaguar backed car to European racing after a gap of almost 15 years. (Remember the TWR XJ220C in the early 90s.)
Apex signed a multi-year contract with Jaguar in 2006 to build and run XKRs in the FIA GT3 championship. Races this year are in the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, UAE and UK.
Richard Lloyd began his racing career in Triumphs in the 1960s and ran the Bentley Speed 8 team that won Le Mans in 2003.
Additions to the XKR include full roll cage of course, but also new alloy sub-frames front and rear; six-speed Hewland transaxle; dry sump lubrication; adjustable dampers, anti-roll bars & brake bias; upgraded brakes; lots of electronics and a rear aerofoil!
